Activation code not working — a troubleshooting checklist

When a code is refused or the TV just sits there, it is almost always one of a short list of causes. Work through these in order — most people are fixed by step 3.

Work through these in order

  1. Get a fresh code. Codes expire in minutes. Restart the activation screen on the TV so a new one appears, then enter it right away.
  2. Check for look-alike characters. 0 (zero) vs O (letter), 1 vs I vs l, 5 vs S, 8 vs B. Re-type slowly.
  3. Confirm you are signed in to the right account on the phone or computer. If you have more than one account, you may be entering the code into the wrong one.
  4. Use the official activation page. Type the web address exactly as shown on the TV, or reach it from the service's own homepage. Avoid links from emails or search ads.
  5. Check your subscription is active. An expired or paused plan can block activation. Open your account page and confirm the plan covers the app you are adding.
  6. Update the TV app. An old version can fail silently. Update the app (or remove and re-add it) and try again.
  7. Restart the device. Power the TV or streaming stick fully off for 30 seconds, then on. This clears a surprising number of activation glitches.
  8. Check the network. Strict office, hotel or school Wi-Fi can block the hand-off. Try a home connection or your phone's hotspot on both devices.
  9. Sign in directly instead. If the code path keeps failing, use the "sign in with email and password on this device" option on the TV as a fallback.
Never enter your password on the code screen itself, and never pay a fee to "activate" an app — activation is always free and happens on the service's own site. If a page asks for payment or a gift card to activate, close it.

Still stuck? The issue is usually account- or subscription-related at that point — contact the streaming service's own support through their official app or website.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say my code is invalid or expired?

The code timed out or was mistyped. Generate a new code on the TV and enter it within a minute or two, checking for look-alike characters.

Could my internet be the problem?

Yes. Restrictive networks (hotels, offices, public Wi-Fi) sometimes block the activation hand-off. Try both devices on a home connection or a phone hotspot.

Is it safe to pay a site to activate my app?

No. Legitimate activation is always free on the service's own website. Any page asking for payment, a gift card, or remote access to activate should be closed immediately.
