How to activate an app on Apple TV
Most streaming apps on Apple TV offer a code-based sign-in, which is quicker than typing a password with the remote. You install the app, ask it for a code, and confirm that code on your iPhone or computer. Here is the full flow and the alternatives.

Step 1: install the app
- Open the App Store on your Apple TV.
- Use Search to find the app, then select Get to download it.
- Open the app from the Apple TV Home screen.
Step 2: sign in with a code
- Choose Sign in, then the option to sign in on a mobile device or the web. A code and a web address appear, and many apps also show a QR code.
- On your iPhone or computer, open the web address, or scan the QR code with your iPhone camera. Make sure the page belongs to the streaming service.
- Sign in to your streaming account and enter the code exactly as shown.
- Wait a few seconds. The Apple TV finishes activation on its own.
Other ways to sign in on Apple TV
- Sign in on the Apple TV directly. Most apps also let you type your email and password with the remote. It is slower, but it avoids the code step entirely.
- Type with your iPhone. When a text field is active on Apple TV, your iPhone can show a keyboard through the Apple TV Remote controls, which makes typing a password much easier.
- Sign in through your TV provider. Some apps that come with a cable or satellite subscription can sign you in through the TV Provider option in Apple TV Settings, if your provider supports it.
If Apple TV activation does not work
- Get a new code. Leave the sign-in screen and come back so a fresh code appears.
- Check the account. The Apple TV is linked to whichever streaming account is signed in on your iPhone or computer.
- Update the app and tvOS. Outdated software can fail without a clear error.
- Restart the Apple TV from the System section of Settings, or unplug it briefly.
- Delete and reinstall the app if the code screen never loads.

Stay on the real sign-in page
Entering a code never costs extra, and no one needs to call you or connect to your computer to activate an app. If a page you reached from a search ad asks for a fee or a phone call, close it. See how to spot activation code scams.
